Game 3 vs Kincardine Cardinals 3
The Walkerton Capitals #1 team played its home opener on Monday, May 30th against the Kincardine Cardinals 3. It would be the third game in 5 days for the Capitals but the boys were ready to battle.

It was a quick 3 up 3 down top of the inning as Jacob Zettler pitched a great half.  He struck out the side with his pitches right through the strike zone.  Walkerton responded early in the game when Cody McIntyre cracked a triple into the right outfield and cashed in Tyler Wallace from second and AJ Wells from first.  The Kincardine team then ran into some pitching issues and the next five batters all reached base on walks.  Austin Cormack then doubled and one more walk loaded the bases again.  Walkerton players Cameron Maus, Lucas Bester, Jack Walter and Cole Saunders all scored before the inning was called with a six run limit.

Kincardine scored one run in the top of the second to cut into the Walkerton lead and another two runs in the third while striking out six of the next seven Walkerton batters.  Jacob Zettler was stranded on third after a lead off hit in the bottom of the third inning.

Kincardine then scored another two runs in the fourth before Walkerton scored runs by Cole Saunders, Jack Walter and Austin Cormack.  Walkerton lead 9-5 after four innings of play.

Because of time restraints the fifth inning would be the final inning but Kincardine made the most of it with some timely hitting.  The Cardinals scored five runs in their half to jump into the lead over the Capitals.  Not to be out done Walkerton was not finished.  When Cody McIntyre lead off with a double and Cameron Maus was hit by a pitch to put a man on first and second.  Lucas Bester hit a single past the second baseman to score Cody to tie the game.  Jack Walter then walked to load the bases when Cole Saunders stepped up to the plate and hit a line drive into shallow centre field and brought Cameron home to secure the Capitals win and keep the early season record a 3-0.

Congratulations to everyone on a well deserved victory.  Even though things went off the rails at times you fought back and played as a unit and were always encouraging each other.  The pitching of Jacob Zettler, Cole Saunders and Tyler Wallace was strong.  A final thank you to Randy Saunders and Alicia McIntyre for the audio of the player name announcements and music during the game, just like in the big leagues.
