The Walkerton Capitals played their fifth game of the season
on Monday, June 13th against the Saugeen Shores Sting (Gold)
team. The team was attempting to get
back into the win column after their first loss last week.
The Capitals sent Cody McIntyre to the rubber as starting pitcher. The Sting were able to score one run in the top of the first inning. In its half of the inning Walkerton sent four batters to the plate only to have three of them strike out.
The second started with Cody McIntyre striking out the side 1, 2, 3. The Capitals scored six runs in the bottom half when Lucas Bester, Jake Wells, Austin Cormack, Cameron Maus, Jake Zettler and Dylan Cartwright all crossed home plate. After two innings of play Walkerton lead 6-1.
Saugeen Shores sent four batters to the plate in the third but Cody struck out three of them. Walkerton scored five more runs in the bottom half when Cody McIntyre, Cole Saunders, Lucas Bester, Jake Wells and Jacob Zettler all came into score.
The fourth inning brought a pitching change with Cameron Maus brought into shut down the Sting. He struck out the side in rapid succession. Walkerton added to its lead when Tyler Wallace, Cody McIntyre and Cole Saunders all scored to increase the lead to 14-1.
Cameron would continue to pitch into the fifth and the Sting would score three runs to cut into the lead. In the end Walkerton would not get back up to bat as the game was called due to time limit.
The Capitals played a great game, exceptional pitching, timely hitting and some fine defensive play made this a great team effort. The team continues to improve with each game and should be proud the way they are playing.
