Game 9 vs. Saugeen Shores Gold
The Walkerton Capitals would host the Saugeen Shores Sting Gold team on July 18, 2018.  The late start would mean that once again the game would be played under lights.

Walkerton’s starting pitcher would come out and shut down the Sting side in quick order striking out two batters while the infield would take care of the middle batter with a great throw to first base.  In the home half of the inning Walkerton’s Riley Harris, would lead off with a walk and promptly steal second.  Lukas Watke and Xander Thornton would walk to load the bases.  Matthew McNaughton would then reach second base after a dribbler would go back to home plate for the force out play but the throw to first would be off target and Matthew would then continue running to second.  Ethan Garland would walk to bring in Lukas from third, Connor McIntosh would then hit into a fielders choice play but would be credited with an RBI as Xander would score for the Capitals.  Ryan Hinsperger would then walk to again load the bases and the next batter Ethan Smith would walk to bring Matthew in from third.  The Capitals would threaten with bases loaded but the final out would occur with a strike out.  Walkerton would lead 3-0 after the first inning.

The second inning would see Saugeen Shores cut into the Walkerton lead by scoring two runs.  The Capitals would, however, bring out the runners and the bats in the bottom of the inning.  Connor Farrell would lead off the side with a walk before stealing second and third.  Parker Elphick would also walk to put runners on the corners.  With 1 out Lukas Watke would walk to load the bases.  Xander Thornton would walk after a full count and this would bring in Connor Farrell from third base.  Parker Elphick would steal home after a wild pitch would get away from the catcher.  Matthew McNaughton and Ethan Garland would then each walk to bring in another run.  Connor McIntosh and Ryan Hinsperger would each hit singles to bring in yet more runs.  Ethan Smith would then double and bring in the sixth run of the inning.

The third inning and Saugeen Shores would again score two runs.  Walkerton’s Cayleb Peitz would then lead things off in the bottom of the third with a home run after hitting a pitch into the gap in the outfield and turning on the yets as he rounded the bases.  The next three batters for Walkerton would each strike out so after three innings of play the Capitals would lead 10-4.

The Capitals would send Ethan Smith out as pitcher in the top of the fourth and he would strike out the side in a three up three down inning.  Walkerton’s Lukas Watke would lead things off in the bottom of the inning with a walk before stealing second and then third base.  Xander Thornton would hit into a fielders choice play but would cash the runner in from third.  The next two batters would then hit into fielders choice plays to end the side.

The Sting would send out four batters in the top  of the fifth before the third strike out was recorded.  The Capitals would not need to take the field in the bottom half of the inning.

Once again the Capitals would utilize the strong points of its game.  Outstanding pitching, strong hitting and base running as well as heads up fielding made for yet another victory for the Capitals.
