Game 12 vs Saugeen Shores #3
The final regular season game of the year had the Walkerton Capitals playing host to the Saugeen Shores #3 team on Tuesday, August 7th.  The game would feature solid hitting and excellent defensive play from the two teams in a highly entertaining game.

Walkerton would take to the field with pitcher Talan Hope as the starter.  The Port Elgin team would score a single run in the top half of the inning.  The Capitals would respond by scoring a run of its own when Ethan Rogers would walk with two outs.  Ethan would then steal second and third.  Talan Hope would also walk and Ethan would then come home on a passed ball and was able to slide underneath the tag.  The game would be tied at 1 after the first inning.

The Saugeen Shores team would lead off the top of the second with a double.  The runner would, however, be thrown out while attempting to steal third base when catcher AJ Wells launched a perfect throw to the third baseman’s glove.  The next two batters would then strike out and a three up three down inning would be the result.  In their half of the inning Walkerton make he most of its time at bat.  Carson Filsinger would lead off with a walk and then steal second and third.  Matthew McNaughton would single to bring Carson home for the go ahead run.  Matthew would then steal second and Logan Bradley would earn first base after walking.  While attempting to double steal Logan would be tagged at second for the first out.  Nick Howald (a call up from Rookie Ball) would be hit by a pitch and awarded first base.  The next batter would ground out at first but would advance Nick to second base.  The next three batters AJ, Ethan and Talan would all walk bringing home two runners while keeping the bases loaded.  Carson Baglole would then single to bring AJ home from third.  Another run would score when Carson Filsinger would walk thus brining Ethan around from third.  The maximum six runs would be achieved when Matthew would strike out but beat the throw after a dropped ball.  Talan Hope would steal home in the ensuing event.

Ethan Rogers would come in for the third inning and take over pitching duties.  Four Saugeen Shores players would take batting opportunities against him but as a third out was recorded no runs would be scored against him.  The bottom half of the inning would see Walkerton again using the bats and some great hitting to their advantage.  After a strike out to lead off the inning Nick would walk and then steal second.  AJ would also walk.  The two runners would come home when Ethan would double.  The next batter Talan Hope would drive Ethan in with a hit to centre field to record a stand up double.  The strong hitting would continue when Carson B cracked a double into the shallow outfield.  Carson F would walk and the two base runners would advance on a passed ball.  Matthew would then single to drive in the six run of the inning.

The fourth inning and Saugeen Shores would lead off with a crushing home run that sailed into deep centre field.  Saugeen Shores would score another run before the third strike out of the inning was recorded.  Walkerton would start the bottom of the inning off with Jake reaching first after a third strike drop ball, AJ would single and Ethan would walk to load the bases.  Talan would then single to bring in the first run of the inning.  Carson B would single to bring the runner home from third. Carson F would also reach first after a drop ball third strike when he beat the throw by a step or two.  Matthew would then single again bringing the runner home from third base.  Logan Bradley would then hit a hard double into the outfield to bring in two runners.  Nick would then be hit by a pitch to take first base.  The inning would come to a conclusion with a ground out to first but Walkerton would have already scored five runs.  The game would be called due to time restraints after four innings.  The Capitals will head into the WOBA tournament with a strong work ethic and confidence in their abilities.
