Walkerton travelled up to Teeswater for a Tuesday evening game on June 7th to play its fourth game of the season.

The Capitals scored a run in the first inning when Austin Cormack scored after leading off the game with a double.  Jacob Zettler then drove Austin in with a hard single.  Teeswater responded with a run in their half of the inning.

 

The Teeswater pitching was strong throughout the game, but no more so then in the second inning when all three Capital batters were struck out in succession.  Teeswater scored two runs in the bottom half of the second to take a 3-1 lead.

 

The Walkerton bats came alive in the third as 5 runners all crossed home plate allowing the Capitals to regain the lead.  Cody McIntyre, Jack Walter, AJ Wells, Austin Cormack and Lucas Bester all scored.  Not to be out done Teeswater scored two additional runs but trailed 6-5 after three.

 

Walkerton was unable to score in the fourth while Teeswater added two more runs in the bottom half to take the lead again in the see-saw battle.

 

The Capitals added one run in the fifth inning when Lucas Bester doubled, stole third and then stole home on a ball that got away from the back catcher.  Teeswater was held scoreless and as the inning ended the game was tied at 7.

 

Neither team was able to score any runs during the sixth inning so the teams would battle a tight game into the seventh inning.  Walkerton would come close but left a runner stranded.  Teeswater was able to score and win the game on a slide that was just under the tag at home plate. 

 

Walkerton played a good game but came up just short.  Pitchers Lucas Bester, Jacob Zettler and Cole Saunders each had good pitching throughout the game.  The Capitals stand at 3 and 1 on the young season but there is still lots of ball to be played.
